By joining our McCracken County Unit as a Transportation Auto/Truck Technician I, you’ll have the opportunity to complete preventive maintenance and initiate repairs in the Maintenance facility specialized in road and construction maintenance operations vehicles.
Holders of the Transportation Auto/Truck Technician I position will complete tasks such as:
- Maintain automotive vehicles and equipment by repairing, adjusting or replacing batteries, performing tune-ups, replacing and adjusting head and taillights, checking fluids and lubricants, changing filters and belts, changing, repairing and rotating tires, and checking tire air pressure.
- Operate tools and machinery in the repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect and analyze automotive vehicles and equipment for repairs and service.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
- Completes repairs and servicing reports
- Learns to perform more complex duties by assisting higher-level technicians in functions such as disassembling, repairing and assembling engines, transmissions, etc.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
- Basic equipment operating experience.
- Experience preforming preventative maintenance on vehicles or equipment.
Required to possess a valid driver’s license, some travel will be required for professional trainings. Incumbents in this job title should possess the ability to work sit, stoop and bend. Should be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Should be able to respond to emergencies.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of automotive/truck repair technical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
