The BC Tree Fruits Cooperative (BCTFC) is owned by fruit growers throughout the entire Okanagan Valley, employs approximately 500 employees, and operates multiple facilities. Representing over 400 growers, we market fresh tree fruits including, apples, pears, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums, prunes and grapes.

The Seasonal Forklift Operator is responsible for stacking and moving bins, loading or unloading packed fruit from the trucks, loading bins onto or off of equipment, and loading or unloading trucks (bins, supplies). All duties must be performed in a safe manner to ensure compliance with government regulations, industry standards and customer requirements to ensure both food and workers safety. This position is Seasonal Full-Time and will run from approximately August 1, 2022 for 4-6 weeks and is located in Creston.

The successful applicant will have the following key accountabilities:

  • Follow all pertinent food safe and safe work procedures as required
  • To load, unload, stack and move bins and pallets of packed fruit and supplies
  • To load and unload trucks
  • At times, nest bins and perform light bin repair duties
  • Safe and efficient operation of the lift truck at all times
  • Understanding the requirements of the job and maintaining records pertaining to the job
  • Any other duties assigned within the nature of the job

Responsibilities

The Environmental Services Worker contributes toward the protection against cross infection while keeping the facility safe and visibly clean and is responsible for the provision of a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive environment for patients, residents, visitors and staff. Duties of the position may include any or all duties outlined in the Environmental Services Worker position description. In addition to being readily available on short notice, the position requires availability for all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

The duties of the Environmental Services Worker will be carried out in accordance with the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health Authority.


Qualifications

  • Grade 12/GED required.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and initiative.
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse intellectual / physical challenges.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with all levels of staff and patients/residents.
  • Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to patients, staff, co-workers and the hospital.
  • Good reading and writing skills.
  • Previous hospital housekeeping and room cleaning experience would be a definite asset.
  • Travel to other sites may be required. Access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Requirements:

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Parks Planning and Development, this leadership position is responsible for leading a team of professionals and providing expertise in the strategic planning and delivery of parks and public spaces for the City, including long-range planning, coordination of comment on behalf of the section on all development proposals, creation/administration of all policy and guidelines related to parks and recreational facility delivery. In response to continued growth and renewed vision for the City, the Supervisor, Parks Planning will be integral in managing special projects relating to parks and public spaces to help support the goal of building complete communities.


  • OPERATIONS STRATEGY
  • Assists in managing long and short-range planning activities related to the delivery of parks and open space, with the goal of delivering a suitable supply of parks and recreational facilities for the City.
  • Contributes to the formulation of philosophy, mission, corporate goals and objectives related to the parks and open space network for the City.
  • Administers the City’s Parkland Dedication By-law including facilitation of periodic reviews, solicitation of feedback with stakeholders, drafting of by-law amendments and recommends assignment of CIL receipts for capital expenditures
  • Contributes to the negotiations for parkland and open space assembly through Purchase and Sale Agreements and development driven parkland conveyance agreements while respecting the confidentiality of negotiations.
  • Coordinates the development, update and implementation of major strategic parks and recreation planning documents (e.g. Parks and Recreation Master Plan, Parkland Acquisition Strategies, Cash-in-Lieu of Parkland programs).
  • Provides strategic direction and leads the creation of policy governing the assembly and development of the parks and open space program including the establishment of policy through the Official Plan and Secondary Plans and oversees and directs implementation through Block Planning, Subdivision and Site Plan review.
  • Responsible for the coordination of all comments, conditions and clauses related to parks/open space and recreational facility provision, as part of the processing of development applications - including plans of subdivision, re-zonings and Official Plan amendments for incorporation into Conditions of Draft Plan Approval and Subdivision Agreements.
  • Prepares and assembles information necessary to respond to appeals to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) and /or Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) and appears as an expert witness.
  • Prepares and or oversees the preparation of Corporate Reports to Council with respect to parks planning matters including recommendations around capital expenditures (e.g. park purchases)
  • Undertakes analysis, coordinates studies and creates presentations related to parks and recreational facility delivery.
  • Responsible for developing and/or updating the City’s open space and parks planning standards, procedures and guidelines.
  • Works with partnering sections and departments in the delivery of ‘active transportation’, with focused emphasis on the planning and development of off-road recreational trails and related infrastructure (e.g. signage).
  • Creates, monitors and oversees administration of policy and guidelines governing the naming of parks and open space assets.
  • Responsible to maintain a parkland and parks facility inventory database, in conjunction with GIS, Parks Maintenance and Forestry and Recreation.
  • PEOPLE LEADERSHIP
  • Supervises the work of full time staff including determining staffing allocation, recruitment, motivation, discipline and other personnel matters of a confidential nature.
  • Engages and supervises consultants for variety of planning and design related projects.
  • Supervises, consults and influences a team of park planners and project staff whom are responsible for the planning of parks, public spaces, and an open space network for the City with an emphasis on encouraging innovation, sustainability and service excellence
  • Works in collaboration as part of the section’s management team in the evaluation of the section’s effectiveness and assesses the need for changes, in the context of Council direction, changes to legislation, budgets and monitoring of current trends
  • Works with staff in their professional development, to ensure progression and motivation.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Provides professional community design, landscape/park design and planning opinions and expertise to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Prepares, coordinates and or contributes to information sessions/public meetings as part of major strategic projects (e.g. Parks & Recreation Master Plan, recreation and/or park development and redevelopment projects)
  • Creates improvements to enhance overall responsiveness to the customer (the public) and/or internal clients, through the establishment of policies and SOP’s, tracking and projection tools, hardware and software enhancements, etc.
  • Partners with other leaders in the corporation to ensure collaboration and alignment of initiatives
  • RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
  • Builds and fosters strong, working relationships with divisional, departmental, inter-departmental and external partners, including elected officials, private, public and external agencies (e.g. developers, school boards, conservation authorities, and neighbouring municipalities) in the delivery of parks and open space planning.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive approach to public engagement for parks and facility planning and development.
  • COMMUNICATION
  • Liaises with section staff, other divisions/departments, external agencies, members of Council, landowners and consultants for the development industry, and the public as related to various projects
  • Attends public meetings representing the section and provides consultative services to the public, elected officials and outside agencies.
  • Prepare/presents Corporate Reports and advises Council and senior management on matters related to the parks and open space network industry recommendations for parkland and open space purchase.
  • Conveys technical and or complex information to assist in decision making.
  • Creates and maintains records in accordance with established records management practices and contributes improvements to same.
  • Oversees the representation of information pertaining to parks/open space and recreation planning, on both the internal and external City webpages.
  • CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION
  • Represents the section, division or department on assigned departmental, corporate and outside agencies committees such as Real Estate Coordination Team, Conservation Authority-led project teams, etc.
  • Manages the development, administration and defence (in the case of appeals) of the Parkland Dedication By-law for the City
  • Represents the section, division and department as a member of the Development Team, internal and external committees, and task forces.
  • Presents/defends the city’s position at Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) and /or Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT), in the capacity of an expert witness.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging best practices and policies for the development and implementation of a robust and responsive parks and public spaces system that meets the renewed vision of a growing municipality
  • Prepares and reviews project requirements, prepares terms of references, project charters, requests for proposal etc., for the procurement of external consultants to assist in the delivery of parks and facility planning and development services.
  • BUDGET MANAGEMENT
  • Works in collaboration as part of the section’s management team in the preparation of sectional inputs into the development of annual capital and current budgets and forecasts with specific emphasis on parkland assembly and park development
  • Manages the City’s parkland dedication /cash in lieu of parkland program, including the development of funding recommendations in support of parkland acquisitions.
  • TEAMWORK AND COORPERATION

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION:

  • University Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
  • Full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (O.P.P.I) and/or the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) and the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of relevant, progressive experience in the fields of parks planning, park design and/or management of large projects and/or contracts.
  • 2-3 years of progressive project management experience or other leadership functions
  • Required to own a personal vehicle to perform job duties, undertake corporate business and must possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license. Travel to a variety of sites within the municipality and external to the municipality, is required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Extensive knowledge of the land use planning process in Ontario, parks planning, parks development and/or recreational planning and related disciplines (e.g. urban design, environmental planning, transportation planning, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of legislation governing the planning process in Ontario including the Planning Act, the Development Charges Act, the Municipal Act and the Environmental Protection Act
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with municipal staff, elected officials, the public and external agencies in a professional and respectful manner.
  • A dynamic, team-oriented individual with highly developed project and people management skills and an ability to handle multiple and shifting priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with experience speaking in front of municipal Councils, the public and tribunals (e.g. the OMB)
  • Sound, analytical, decision making, problem solving, organizational and leadership skills
  • Background in strategic plan development and policy creation, review and administration
  • Effective listening and strong presentation skills
  • Project management related experience along with supervisory experience in a professional environment

Position summary

As part of the ABMI’s Geospatial Centre Human Footprint Team, the GIS Technician is responsible for interpretation, deliniation, mapping human footprint from satellite imagery and GIS data, and editing of existing spatial data layers. This also includes the organization of existing GIS layers so that the data can be effectively used in scientific analysis and reporting.

Duties

  • Interpret and map human footprint from satellite imagery and GIS layers
  • Ability to investigate and apply emerging GIS-based approaches to improve the work quality and solutions
  • Coordinate and undertake quality assurance and quality control on work prior to passing it on as required
  • Summarize and export GIS information as required for analyses and distributing output information
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently or within project teams of various sizes

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in GIS, remote sensing, natural resource science, or related discipline preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered; minimum High School Diploma
  • Minimum one year with ArcGIS experience and hands-on experience with geospatial analysis and applied GIS-based tools
